Abstract

Arunachal Pradesh, the largest state of North-Eastern India, is one of the hot biodiversity spot of the world. Some of ethnomedicinal plants are also used as edible vegetables by the tribal people of the state. These wild medicinal edible plants constitute important traditional diets in the state of Arunachal Pradesh, India. About 153 such plant species or parts thereof are found to be used as food items. Out of these, 76 species are used as vegetable, 46 species are used as ethnomedicine and 60 species are used as fruits. However, the nutritional values of all the plant are not available. The present study deals with the nutritional value of the 40 ethnomedicinal plants which are used as wild edible vegetable. All these plants have also significant ethnomedicinal values. The study shows that these ethnomedicinal plant species are rich in source of nutrient for the people of North-East India.
