Abstract

Modified silicon carbide powder with high dispersibility was fabricated via using binary modifier—one is γ-mercaptopropyl trimethoxysilane (KH590) and other is tetramethylammonium hydroxide (TMAH)—to co-modified silicon carbide. The green body with high density of 2.49 g cm−3 was obtained by using the modified SiC powder. Meanwhile, the viscosity of the slurry fabricated with modified SiC powder, as an important parameter, is to investigate the modification effect. The results showed that the minimum viscosity of 0.52 Pa. s was obtained after SiC powder was reacted with 0.4 wt% KH590 and 1.0 wt% TMAH for 2 h. Meanwhile, Zeta potential absolute value of SiC powder before and after modification were 13 mV to 42 mV respectively, indicating highly dispersibility of modified SiC powder. In addition, the dispersion mechanism of SiC powder co-modified with KH590 and TMAH was explained in this paper.
