Abstract

In this paper, we propose and demonstrate a prototype of millimeter-wave (MMW) generator with tunable multiplication factors. A dual-parallel Mach-Zehnder modulator and a remodulation structure are used to effectively excite higher-order optical sidebands and a programmable filter contributes to changing multiplication factors. In our work, frequency-quadrupling (20GHz), frequency-12-tupling (60GHz) and frequency-20-tupling (60 GHz) MMW signals were generated, transmitted and detected. Benefited from the satisfactory unwanted mode suppression ratio, the generated signals show anti-power fluctuation capability along the fiber length, which helps to reduce the power penalty in signal transmission.
