Abstract
This new method can simulate the nonlinear random waves processes by computer if the higher order moments of the probability distribution of the sea surface elevation reflecting the nonlinearity of the sea wave are given. Compared with other methods, this method has greater accuracy and flexibility, wider application and faster simulation. Statistical analysis of the sea surface elevation distribution of the simulated wave process showed obviously the Gram-Charlier series can be used to depict the distribution of the sea surface elevation.
