Abstract

When a large section tunnel passes through a soft stratum, excavation disturbance will inevitably cause large deformation of surrounding rock. In this paper, aiming at a large section tunnel in Shanxi Province, the mechanical behavior of tunnel construction, deformation, and mechanical characteristics are studied by means of laboratory tests and numerical simulation. The results show that the vault settlement appears a double step surge in the early stage of excavation, and the displacement of the top and middle bench changes obviously. The maximum bending moment of the supporting structure is located at the arch foot of the top bench and the wall foot of the middle bench. These parts are weak points of the primary support structure, and corresponding measures should be taken to strengthen them in practical engineering. In step construction, the bolt has a good control effect on the expansion of the plastic zone of the surrounding rock.
