Abstract

Liquid Lithium is one of the candidate material of a beam target in the International Fusion Materials Irradiation Facility (IFMIF). In the IFMIF, to remove the high heat load by beam irradiation, Li is need to flow at high velocity (>15 m/s). Also, because of the soundness of the facility, the surface of the Li jet is required to be stable. Therefore, it is important to clarify the flowing characteristics of Li jet. In previous studies, the velocity measurement using the Surface Wave Tracking (SWAT) method, which is the method like the PIV method, was conducted using the Li loop at Osaka University. But, in considering the removal of the heat at inner of Li jet, it is important to evaluate also the mean velocity including inner flow. Then, we aim to measure the mean velocity using a mechanism of the Electro-Magnetic Flowmeter (EMF). In this study, the electric potential difference between the surface of Li jet and the flow channel generated by magnetic field was measured. In addition, in order to clarify the MHD effect, the surface velocity was measured using SWAT method and then the velocity distributions under two cases of the magnetic flux density were obtained.
