Abstract

1. The mean residence time of the liquid is a generalized parameter characterizing the operating on a cocurrent-flow valve plate; both the hydrodynamic (degree of mixing of the liquid) and the kinetic characteristics (number of transfer unit) depend on this generalized parameter. 2. Mounting of an overflow baffle is one of the means by which the efficiency of mass transfer can be improved and the range of efficient operation of cross-cocurrent-flow contact devices be extended. The maximum height of the overflow baffle should be the limiting value at which the phases are completely converted solely if the flow rates exceed the admissible values.
