Abstract

As the largest in-land fresh water lake of China, Poyang Lake is also an important wetland in the world. However, the lake area, like the other lake areas of China, has being faced series of ecological and environmental problems and challenges, such as soil erosion, land desertification, drought and flooding disasters, farmland being soiled, pollution, invasive species, loss of biodiversity, and more and more valuable species being in severe danger, etc. That also leads to the change of Poyang lake landscape. In order to find out the change of land use in Poyang lake area, RS technology has been applied to interpreter the land use information of Poyang Lake areas from 1986 and 2000 Landsat TM/ETM+ images. Landscape pattern analysis method of landscape ecology has also been introduced into the study of land use change. The analysis of the land use changes of the lake area, which contributes to the opening out of the internal non-coordination of ecologic landscape, has included the use of the theories and research methods of landscape ecology, and adopted transferring matrix of land use and several landscape indexes. Through this study, an approach has been worked out by integrating data extracting, processing and application for the study and analysis of land use changes of Poyang Lake area, which will do great contribution to the sustainable use of land resources and social-economic sustainable development of the lake area.
