Abstract

Using five-laser resonance excitation via the intermediate state 5d6d1P1, the La+ Rydberg states with n from 23 to 62 havebeen measured. Based on the eigenchannel quantum defects µαand transformation matrices Uiα, which are calculated fromfirst principles by relativistic multichannel theory, the energy levels ofthe La+ Rydberg series are calculated within the framework ofmultichannel quantum defect theory and are in good agreement with theexperimental values. With the calculated results we provide clearassignments for the experimental spectra.
