Abstract

The tensioning clamp is used to secure the wire to the tensioning insulator string of the tensioning tower and bear wire tension. The design, crimping, installation and other defects of the tensioning clamp as well as the harsh operating environment may cause corrosion, heating or fracture of the clamp, which directly poses a threat to the safe operation of the high-voltage transmission lines. Based on the root fracture of the drainage plate of a 500kV transmission line conductor with tensioning clamp, this paper analyzed the fracture cause of the clamp by using the material characterization methods such as morphological analysis, X-ray digital imaging and chemical composition analysis, and combined with the environmental impact included in the operation. The paper also puts forward operation prevention measures to solve the problem of clamp fracture, which can provide reference for the operation, maintenance and management of high-voltage transmission lines and prevent similar accidents from happening again.
