Abstract
Cement is the second most consumed material after water due to the phenomenal growth of infrastructure, etc., resulting in huge consumption of cement as a construction material. In this regard, Geo Polymer Concrete (GPC) may prove to be an important solution for the concrete industry as it can replace conventional cement in concrete. In addition, many infrastructure projects use higher grade concrete, and in geopolymer concrete, higher grades can be achieved through the use of industrial waste by-products. The emphasis is on the recycling of industrial wastes such as fly ash, ground granulated blast furnace slag (GGBS) for use as a binder due to its chemical interaction with alkaline solutions to form inorganic molecules.15 reinforced geopolymer concrete corbels with M50 concrete grade and various percentages of secondary reinforcement were cast and tested. The results of experimental tests for shear strength are compared with several analytical and design standards. Most analytical models are conservative in predicting the shear capacity of GPC corbels. However, Hagberg (1983) and Euro Code 2 (2004) predict the best shear performance for GPC Corbels.
