Abstract

Introduction: Common usage has led to the term 'asphyxia' being equated with "lack of oxygen' though etymologically the word means 'absence of pulsation'. The following conditions may legitimately be considered to be defects in the chain of respiration and hence are examples of asphyxia: Absence or reduction of oxygen tension in the external atmosphere, such as reduced barometric pressure or replacement of oxygen by an inert gas, such as nitrogen or carbon dioxide. Study of extra cervical features in mechanical Aim: asphyxial deaths in North East Delhi. Objectives: To nd the difference between epidemiological prole among different types of mechanical asphyxial deaths & to nd prevalence and relationship of extra cervical features in different types of mechanical asphyxial deaths. A tot Materials And Methods: al of 200 death victims were included due to mechanical asphyxia. General external examination from head to toe was done to look specically for Appearance of face, (petechiae on forehead Petechiae on skin behind ears and petechiae on circumoral skin), upper Eye lid, lower eyelid and the body. Visceral Petechial Emorrhages Results: At Interlobar Fissures was seen in all the cases. Post Mortem Staining On Back (98.5%), Faccid Penis (97.3%), Visceral Petechial Emorrhages At Epicardium (90.5%) & Visceral Petechial Emorrhages At Hilum (80%) was the most common nding seen. The study concluded that Conclusion: the charecterstics features seen in the cases are resulted asohyxial deaths
