Abstract

AbstractBridge is one of the most critical structures on the railway. Steel structure is widely applied in the long-span bridges crossing natural obstacles such as canyons, rivers, and lakes. The focus of the long-span bridge is gradually diverted from design to maintenance. The points of maintenance of a long-span railway bridge in operation are discussed in this paper. The basic principles of maintenance are proposed. In this paper, spherical bearings, suspenders, and bolted connections are defined as key components for long-span railway steel bridges. The inspection strategies and typical diseases of spherical bearings are introduced. The testing methods and contents of different types of suspenders are listed. Numerical control constant torque electric wrenches are recommended for inspecting high-strength bolts, and the delayed fracture factors of high-strength bolts are discussed.
