Abstract
Electroluminescence (EL) from PTFE has been investigated in vacuum under high AC voltage by optical observation method in this paper. To create divergent fields in PTFE, a symmetry planar circular electrodes and different electrode contact manners (with/without sputtered gold films) are employed. EL mechanism is analyzed in this paper and a theory model is put forward to discuss the effect of electrode contact manners. It is shown that the initial luminescent voltage of PTFE with sputtered gold films is lower than that without sputtered gold films and it is higher under DC voltage than that under AC voltage. Under AC voltage, light emission at negative half cycle is greater than that at positive half cycle, because electrons injection is easier than holes injection.
