Abstract

In the electrical discharge machining process, according to the principle of the discharge gap formula, a discharge equivalent circuit between the discharge gap and discharge circuit is established, and the equations between critical gap distance and discharge parameters are derived. On the basis of analysis of interaction mechanism in the size of discharge gap distance and other parameters, relationship between gap distance and discharge parameters is discussed. It is found that discharge gap include machining gap distance and critical gap distance in the normal machining, and the gap distance is a real-time dynamic process. As the electrical parameters, discharge area, machining material and dielectric changing, the size of the gap distance change and this will directly affect state of the plasma channel, processing characteristics and machining accuracy.
