Abstract

An admissible velocity field is presented to estimate nonaxisymmetric flow incident to cold cup extrusion, in which the deviation of the nonslip point from the punch center, Ef, and a circumferential velocity factor Xv are introduced. The following were derived from the analysis; eccentricity between punch and die causes some nonaxisymmetric flow, resuling in a uniform emerging speed of the cup wall, and the required punch load scarcely varies from that for the concentric punch and die. With a punch of unbalanced friction, the nonslip point shifts toward the high-friction side and the emerging speed of the cup wall is larger on the low-friction side than on the high-friction side; the difference, however, diminishes rapidly as the rpocess proceeds. The emerging speed of the cup wall may be fairly uniform for a blank having nonaxisymmetric distribution in yield strength, though the nonslip point shifts toward the lower-yield-strength side.
