Abstract

With the development of the economy and society, the energy consumption in China has increased rapidly, which puts forward higher requirements for the guaranteed ability of energy supply. Investigating the driving forces of energy consumption in China can be critical for the institute and the government to better formulate relevant strategies. In this paper, the LMDI (logarithmic mean Divisia index) method is employed to decompose the impacting factors of the energy consumption, and the influence of per capita GDP, population and energy efficiency has been investigated in depth. Moreover, the impact of technology improvement and the change of industrial structure on energy efficiency has also been studied. The results show that the per capita GDP is the dominant factor for increasing energy consumption, while the ascending energy efficiency achieved by using more effective technology can save energy significantly.
