Abstract

Abstract This study aims to establish a fracture prediction method that considers the effect of crack opening modes to accurately predict brittle fracture occurring at the beam-to-column joints of building structures. Beam-to-diaphragm joint models were tested under cyclic loading, designed to connect building structures. Finite element analysis and failure prediction using the Weibull stress approach were conducted. Using mixed-mode ratio, the effect of crack opening modes on prediction accuracy was examined. Further, the accuracy of fracture prediction were improved through corrections for different modes.
