Abstract

Melt-blown polypropylene (MBPP) electret fabrics are the heart material of respirators. Corona-charging is the most commonly used technique endowing MBPP fabrics with electret characteristics. However, corona-charged MBPP electret fabrics are difficult to meet the filtration efficiency standard requirement of KN99, N99 and FFP3 respirators. This paper's aim is to provide a better understanding of corona-charging process for MBPP electret fabrics by 6 corona-charging modes. The electret characteristics of MBPP fabrics, such as bipolar phenomenon of surface potential and correlation between filtration efficiency and charge density are investigated by measuring filtration efficiency, surface potential distribution, thermally stimulated discharge current, charge density.
