Abstract

Lightweight and high-strength metal matrix composites (MMCs) are widely used in automotive industries and aerospace components, especially in biomedical applications due to their improved wear and corrosion resistance, sustainability, and better tensile properties at high temperatures. These composites consist of a metal matrix (Al, Mg, Cu) reinforced with nano-particles featuring high mechanical and physical properties from those of the matrix. This complete review focuses on the modern advancement for the fabrication of MMCs such as aluminum series of grades with various nano-particles with different methods and different particles and their order. The mechanical properties of various MMCs fabricated with different techniques are reported. A detailed case study including mechanical and mechanical properties was reviewed. The industrial applications of AlMg1SiCu MMCs of 20 vol% Al2O3/die casting and extrusion and 15 vol% SiC particles were studied.
