Abstract

The synthesis of butyl propionate from propionic acid and n-butanol with rare earth solid superacid SO42-/TiO2/La3+as environmentally friendly catalyst was studied. The influential factors of reaction were investigated. Results show that the appropriate conditions are: molar ratio of n-butyl alcohol to propionic acid was 3 : 1; Catalyst's weight was 1.2g (the amount of 0.1 molar propionic acid); Cyclohexane is used as water-carrying reagent with 1.0 mL; Reaction time was 1.5 hour. The esterification rate of n-butyl propionate is about 99.08 % .
