Abstract
This paper presents the author's recent studies of structural strength of urban bus bodies with the finite element method. A summary is provided of the principal problems encountered and their solutions in structural strength. It has proved effective in the practical design of the bus body. The paper also describes two evaluation methods for an item called body carrying capability with deformation ratio of body to frame. The evaluation methods can be used to properly match the rigidity of body and frame. In the last part of the paper, the author offers computation examples about some kinds of urban bus bodies made in China (a).
