Abstract
New Media aka Social Media continues to play a vital role in our day to day life, especially in India-which has been ranked as the second largest Social Media consumers in the world. Any incident happens will be immediately out in the social media and it creates an impact. Though it has good things, it is also used for spreading antisocial activities, dangerous applications which leads to a state of panic, this is a Cybercrime under the Information Technology Act 2000 and the I.T. Amendment Act 2008 of India which deals with offences relating to the use of or concerned with the abuse of computers or other electronic gadgets. In my study, I would like to highlight were the impacts caused due to them, happened in India in the year 2017. The major goal is to bring out the impact of the Blue whale game on society. Uses and gratifications theory focuses on what do people do with media? and discusses how users deliberately choose media that will satisfy given needs and allow one to enhance knowledge, relaxation, social interactions/companionship, diversion, or escape. In this case people play this game to get “Likes”, excitements and adventure and sometimes due to threats. I am using Case Study on five incidents happened in India in the year 2017 and is our Cyber Crime Division's Action towards them.
