Abstract

Marine algae are one of the largest sources for biogenic compounds. They produce a wide variety of chemically active metabolites. They are found to possess significant antioxidant, and phytochemical activities. Macroalgae provide a great variety of metabolites and natural bioactive compounds with antimicrobial activity, such as polysaccharides, polyunsaturated fatty acids, phlorotannins other phenolic compounds and carotenoids. In the present study the phytochemical, amylase activity, GCMS and Antioxidant assays such as ABTS assay and DPPH assays were carried out for Saccharina japonica using two different solvents, petroleum ether and ethyl acetate. For antioxidant activity, DPPH radical assay and ABTS radical cation scavenging assay were carried out.
