Abstract

In this paper, we study the maximum antenna gain under the condition of a limited aperture area. Three different antennas are studied. These antennas are working in the same frequency band and have the same area of radiation aperture. First, under the condition of the central frequency of 4 GHz and the circular aperture with a diameter of 1.3 m, the maximum gain of the traditional symmetrical reflector antenna is found to be 33.40 dB. Then the offset reflector antenna is studied and the maximum gain is 33.70 dB under the same condition. Finally, the horn antenna array with the same radiation aperture is investigated, the maximum gain is 34.17 dB. It is found that by using the same aperture area, the gain of a symmetrical reflector antenna can be improved by an offset reflector antenna. Moreover, by changing from space feeding to line feeding, a horn antenna array is found to have the highest gain under the condition of the same aperture.
