Abstract

This paper proposes a new pulse power supply to generate highly stabilized high magnetic fields (ripple les10 ppm), which are needed for some kinds of scientific experiments (like the NMR experiment). In order to generate a high magnetic field (more than 50 Tesla), the power supply needs to provide a more than 10 kA pulse current to the magnet, so the required capability of the power supply is very large. The power supply presented in this paper consists of a pulse forming network (PFN) and a power electronics device. The PFN which is made up of a LC network provides a basic current (90%-99% of the total current), the power electronics device is to refine the flattop of the current wave to get a highly stabilized magnetic wave. The cost of the whole power supply is low if it is properly designed.
