Abstract

Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV) is used widely in underwater environments. In underwater environments, radio communications and global positioning systems are useless due to the strong attenuation of radio-frequency signals. This makes the communication, positioning, and navigation of AUV challenges. The underwater acoustic technology could solve the service mentioned above. However, the Underwater Acoustic Positioning System (UAPS) and Acoustic Communication System (UAC) are independent for a long time. This phenomenon not only causes the waste of the precious underwater source, but also the signal interference to each other. Therefore, we apply underwater Acoustic Positioning and Communication Integrated System (UAPCIS) to supply positioning and communication service for the multiple users simultaneously. In this paper, we designed the signal for UAPCIS based on spread spectrum communication. Then we studied the signal process and implemented the simulation based on MATLAB. Based on the simulation, the theory was proved feasible.
