Abstract

Abstract Synthetic aperture radar (SAR) which acquires planar images at any time of the day and under any weather conditions is an important surveillance sensor in modern hi-tech war. For airborne SAR the image formation algorithms are ideally analyzed with the presumption that the aircraft moves in a straight line and at constant speed. However, the aircraft is affected by kinds of factors such as airstreams and its own instability, so the motion error between real aviation and ideal aviation exists, which can seriously blur the SAR image. So the motion compensation must be executed. In this paper a novel method for resolving turbulent aircraft motion is proposed based on SAR raw data. This method is very valid to conquer the turbulent aircraft motion, also the SAR image can be focused. The effectiveness of the proposed method is demonstrated by measured data imaging experiment. Meanwhile the method introduced in this paper causes only low computational load.
