Abstract

Although the absolute number of US visitors to Singapore increased over the 10 years between 1986 and 1995, the share of US visitors in the Singapore tourist market declined from 5.9 to 4.84%. Apparently Singapore has been less successful in attracting US visitors than visitors from other countries. To provide a better understanding of US tourist arrivals in Singapore, we analysed the arrival trends of different categories of US visitors (business, transit and pleasure). It is hoped that a better understanding of the arrival trends of the different subgroups may draw the attention of policy makers to their respective needs.
