Abstract

A glass series for composition 20ZnO.(80-x)B 2 O 3 .xNa 2 O with x = 10, 20, 30, 40, and 50 have been prepared using melt quenching technique, the thermal and physical properties of prepared samples were studied. To analyze the role of modifier the parameters like glass transition temperature ( T g ), density ( ρ ), molar volume ( V m ), crystalline volume ( V c ), oxygen packing density (OPD), interionic distance ( R i ), polaron radius ( R p ), boron molar volume (V M B ), average boron-boron distance <d B-B > and field strength ( F ) were calculated. Glass transition temperature exhibits a nonlinear decrement with increment in modifier content. As sodium oxide content increases molar volume decreases and density showcase increasing pattern with decrease in rate of change of ρ with increasing sodium oxide percentage.
