Abstract

Effective and efficient fishing is very much needed in capture fisheries business. FADs are tools that are widely used by fishermen to fulfill this. This study aims to describe the technical aspects and analyze the financial aspects of the traditional Bajo FAD business in Torokeku Village, South Konawe Regency, Southeast Sulawesi. The research method uses case studies with data collection techniques, namely direct measurements, following FAD installation activities on the seabed, following fishing operations, and interviewing fishermen. The results showed that technically the traditional FAD construction consisted of a FAD body consisting of 100 sticks of forest wood tied using a rope made of polyethylene and 50 stalks of coconut leaf attractor. The results of financial calculations in 1 year show that the investment cost is Rp. 10,000,000; fixed cost Rp. 3,100,000; variable fee Rp. 2,400,000; total cost Rp. 5,500,000; an average production value of Rp.60,000,000; profit Rp. 54,500,000; BCR 9.9; BEP sales Rp.3.229.167; the average profitability is 9.9% and the payback period is 0.18 (1 month 2 weeks). The results show that the traditional Bajo FADs are profitable. The profit-sharing system applied is 60% for fishing gear owners and 40% for FAD owners at each fishing operation.
