Abstract

1. A method was developed to determine the mean rate of growth of a crack during its short brittle jumps under static and cyclic loading. The method uses the phenomenon of acoustic emission, which permits remote recording of the moment of crack starting and arrest before the crack reaches the surface of the object being tested. 2. It was established that the mean velocity of a crack during its brittle jumps in steel 15Kh2MFA in the process of cyclic loading at 293°K increases with an increase in the length of the jump and the critical SIF corresponding to crack starting.
