Abstract

The characteristics of the flow-induced vibrations of a sieve tray column have been experimentally studied using the full scale partial model of an actual absorption tower. The measured acceleration of the tray had a maximum about the design gas velocity, and where the measured stress showed that this vibration might cause a significant damage to the structures of the tray column. The mechanism of the onset of this type of vibration is not clear. However a practical method for avoiding this type of vibration has been developed and the validity of the method has been confirmed in the model experiment.
