Abstract

The pressure-area curves of poly-β-benzyl-L-aspartate (PBLA) are determined using using various spreading solvents. The equations of bidimensional state and the thermodynamic spreading quantitites agree in defining the probable presence of the α helix when chloroform containing small quantities of dichloroacetic acid is used as the spreading solvent, whereas spreading solutions containing about 80% of pyridine give rise to a different macromolecular form which is likely to be the 7gb form. With spreading solutions containing intermediate quantities of pyridine bidimensional films containing variable quantities of the α from are obtained.
