Abstract

The p+ 12C forward scattering amplitudes are determined from the available elastic scattering and total cross-section data. A forward dispersion relation is applied to both the non-spin-flip and the spin-flip amplitude. The singularities of these amplitudes are investigated and the residues are determined. This analysis results in spectroscopic information about the 13N ground state and the deeply bound protons in the 1 s 1 2 and the 1 p 3 2 shell of 12C. It is shown that an adequate shell-model description of 12C has to include the coupling between the s- and p-shell which is required by the correct treatment of the c.m. motion. In addition, a discussion of the 1 p 3 2 . shell in 12C yields relative spectroscopic factors for the lowest few states in the 11B core.
