Abstract

In this paper, we studied the effect of the stress on the propagation modes of the thin-wall hollow core fiber based on geometric nonlinearity model by employing the finite element method. For this special fiber, strong dichroism is observed and the leakage losses of the two orthogonal polarization modes are very sensitive to the applied force. We found that the deformation (the reshaped configuration) majorly contributes to this dichroism effect, so that the effect of the nonuniform distribution of the refractive indices induced by the stress can be omitted. The simulation process can be also appropriate in all kinds of the micro- and nano-system with complicated thin-wall or thin-arm configurations.
