Abstract

Abstract We have studied the limitation of the stored current in the storage ring NIJI-IV dedicated to free electron lasers (FELs) by investigating the beam in the full (16) bunch operation and the single bunch operation, the stored current per one injection in the single bunch injection, and the limitation of the stored beam current due to the head-tail instability. The beam lifetimes at 310 MeV in the full bunch operation and the single bunch operation are mainly determined by the gas pressure and by the Touschek effect, respectively. In the single bunch injection, the storage rate of typically 0.06 mA 0.5 s was rather efficient. However, the stored beam current in the single bunch injection was limited to 1 mA, probably because of the head-tail instability.
