Abstract

This paper presents a numerical simulation and an experiment on the generation of step-like pulse in an ultra-long cavity passively mode-locked erbium-doped fiber laser based on nonlinear optical loop mirror (NOLM). The gain competition phenomenon and the peak power clamping (PPC) effect of the step-like pulse are investigated with reasonable transmittance equation. To the best of our knowledge, this paper is the first interpretation and simulation of step-like pulse. And we believe that the findings contribute to the enrichment of nonlinear dynamics understanding and are anticipated to enhance laser performance optimization.
