Abstract

Vickers microhardness has been determined by performing micro-indentation experiments on Chalcogenide glasses (ChGs) of Se70Te30, and Se70Te28M2 (M = Cd, Ag, and Zn) alloys using micro-indentation and optical microscopic techniques. Vickers micro-hardness is directly observed by the diagonal lengths of the indentation marks of a pyramidal diamond indenter. Thermally-induced glass transition was noticed by the DSC technique. Mechanical property such as modulus of elasticity (E), is calculated by well-known empirical relations. The minimal energy of micro-void (Eh), micro void volume (Vh), and covalence character of the glassy system are discussed in terms of microhardness (Hv). Physical parameters i.e., overall mean bond energy, density, molar volume, and compactness have been also carried out.
