Abstract

This study aimed to discuss the relationship between the local residents' religious involvement and their level of place attachment toward Dong-lung Temple in Donggang township. Questionnaires were distributed to the local residents who live in Donggang township with a simple sampling method. The results showed that a significant difference was found in the category of religious involvement to age, gender, educational background, visiting purpose, and visiting frequency. A significant difference was found in the category of place attachment to marital status, age, educational background, visiting purpose, companionship, and visiting frequency. Also, a positive correlated relationship was found between religious involvement and place attachment. In other words, the local residents would have a greater chance to understand and appreciate their folk religion in the area. As a result, they would have a better sense of belonging to the temple and its religious activities.
