Abstract

The ac resistivity of single crystal α-alumina was measured in the JMTR fission reactor. The irradiation temperature was 600–630 K. The fast neutron flux of 3.4×1018 n/m2 s and γ-ray dose rate of 2.7×103 Gy/s matched the expected irradiation conditions in a next-generation fusion device. The resistivity decreased nearly linearly with increase in the reactor power, which is caused by radiation induced conductivity. We also observed a long-term degradation of electrical resistivity, which is similar to radiation induced electrical degradation.
