Abstract

We report a detailed study of the nonlinear magneto-optical response from wedge-shaped (111)-oriented films of noble metals Cu, Au and Ag grown on top of an ultra thin Co film. The spectral dependencies of the oscillatory part of the total optical second harmonic response indicate a dominating role of the free-electron contribution in the optical response from quantum well states.
