Abstract

Lithium fluoride and potassium chloride single crystals were irradiated with high-intensity ultrashort laser pulses at room temperature. Color centers were successfully produced in both materials and their optical properties were studied. The mechanism of point defects production is analyzed and a phenomenological model is formulated.
