Abstract

The hybrid photovoltaic/thermal or PV/T solar water systems are commercially unattractive due to its low concentration ratios, less combined efficiency, non-standardization of heat exchanger surfaces etc. The easy and cost effective technique to increase PV/T efficiency is to augment solar radiation on surface of module. This can be achieved by fitting reflectors to PV module of hybrid solar system. This paper provides design and performance analysis of oscillatory flow heat exchanger used in hybrid system fitted with flat aluminum sheet reflectors. The experimental results such as performance efficiencies of photovoltaic, thermal and combined PV/T system over a range of operating conditions are determined and assessed for latitude of Mumbai. The results of these experiments at solar radiation of 929W/m 2 and water mass flow rate of 0.042 kg/sec with reflectors showed combined PV/T efficiency of 65.10 % with PV efficiency of 12.50 % and performance ratio of 93%. Recommendations for enhancing the performance of hybrid system with reflectors are discussed in the paper.
