Abstract

We have used two methods to categorize central events based on target fragmentation (heavy particle multiplicity, nh≥28) and total charged particle multiplicity (nch>70). Multiplicity and angular distributions of black, gray, shower, alpha and fragments have been studied for central collisions of the La139 projectile with emulsion nuclei, and compared with lighter projectiles. We observed that the results obtained for central reactions using these two criteria (nh≥28 or nch>70) were similar. The study of the angular distribution of target fragments indicates that more than one source may be responsible for their production.
