Abstract

The magnetic and recording properties of single and multi-magnetic layer media were studied. The bulk magnetic properties of the samples are similar. Media noise of multilayer media is significantly lower than that of single layer media. Increase in media SNR (signal-to-noise ratio) depends on the MrT value and the number of magnetic layers. For double and triple magnetic layer media the increase in SNR ranges from 3.3 to 5.5 dB. Interaction study results using the Kelly plot method indicate that single-layer media are characterized by positive interaction, which is likely due to the exchange coupling between grains. By laminating the magnetic layer, positive interaction decreased and negative interaction increased, probably due to a negative magnetostatic interaction between magnetic layers.< <ETX xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">></ETX>
