Abstract

The additive manufacturing is a revolution of manufacturing industries and industry 4.0. Friction stir additive manufacturing is a part of additive manufacturing which comprises the joint operation of friction stir processing and additive manufacturing. This paper reviews the work done in the field of friction stir additive manufacturing is on the different materials. The present works also focused on the variable and non-variable process parameters of friction stir additive manufacturing related to material selection, tool type and tool geometry etc. In addition to it, the mechanical properties such as hardness and tensile strength reported by various authors are also discussed in detail. Furthermore, the scope, challenges and potential of this technology are discussed, considering the requirements of industries in both desired properties and cost-effective.
