Abstract

In order to study the basic deformation behaviour and flow stress of metals, as well as to explore the possibilities of new metal forming processes in the mashy state, the authors made uniaxial compression tests of Pb-alloy, Al-alloys and Cu-alloys o4cam-plastometer and observation on their micro-structures with high-temperature microscope. From these experiments the following results were obtained. (1) The stress-strain relations in the mashy state were obtained and their characteristics were newly clarified. (2) The relationships between flow stress and solid fraction (=weight percentage of solidus component) were obtained. (3) The fact that the flow stress decreases from 1 to 1/4~1/5according to the decrease of solid fraction from 100% to 80~70% was shown. (4) The regularity that the decreasing ratio of flow stress is almost same for all kinds of alloys as long as they have the same solid fraction was obtained. (5) Through observation with the high temperature microscope, the role of liquidus component in deformation behaviour was clarified.
