Abstract

In the present work, the mechanical properties (tensile strength and hardness) of GMA welded joint of dissimilar aluminium alloys AA5083-O/AA6061-T6 is studied at three different position of torch (towards AA5083-O, directly towards weld line and towards AA6061-T6). The torch direction towards AA6061-T6 is found suitable for better tensile strength and hardness. Optical micrograph also showed finer grain in weld metal in this torch direction. The scanning electron microscope showed dimple at fractured region, which confirmed the better mechanical properties of the joint obtained at torch direction towards AA6061-T6.
