Abstract

New vibration-assisted magnetic abrasive finishing processes using pulsed finishing pressure in which the workpiece is vibrated in a vertical or elliptical direction to the machined surface are proposed in order to develop high-efficiency and high-precision finishing technology for 3-dimensional curve surfaces of micro components. The plane-finishing characteristics of the processes are described in this paper. The vertical vibration-assisted finishing process leads to a higher removal rates but a little rougher surface than conventional process. However, the elliptical vibration-assisted finishing process results in a good finish and high removal rates simultaneously.
